The Half Sovereign was first introduced in 1544 and has a face value of half the Sovereign (half a pound). Production of British Half Sovereigns continued until 1926 and, apart from special issues for coronation years, was not restarted until 1980. It was also used extensively in Australia, until 1933. The design typically has the reigning monarch on one side, with a figure of Saint George slaying of the dragon on the other. This design, by Benedetto Pistrucci, dates back to the 1820’s, and remains standard to the present day.

The Gold Half Sovereign coins weigh 3.99 grams, is made of 22 carat crown gold alloy and contain 0.1176 troy ounces (3.6575g) of gold. This coin is supplied in a sealed, tamper resistant packaging for safe transportation and storage, and is sought after by investors.
